I love creating with a variety of mediums, and Birdman is a good example of how I like to mix unexpected materials. I used a 6 x 12-inch deep-pocket canvas board for the base, (body), empty aluminum foil cardboard inserts for the arms and pants, and wooden dowels for the legs. The shoes are vintage shoe forms I found at a local antique store. I created the head by cutting a piece of wood into the shape I wanted to use as the head base, then used paper clay to sculpt the face, hands and the birds as well as some of the three-dimensional detail on the body. The birds’ tiny hats were made from cardstock and paper clay. I finished "Birdman" using a variety of paints and painting techniques to give him his worn, slightly peculiar character. He won first place in a local gallery exhibit and still one of my favorite pieces. He measures approximately 9" x 24" tall. (sold)

ILLUSTRATIONS/DOWNLOADS

For years, I have sketched ideas that never found their way into clay or onto canvas. They have lived in sketchbooks or been held in place with thumbtacks on my studio walls. These illustrations are a collection of those sketches, along with some if my original pieces, brought to life through digital enhancement while remaining rooted in my original sketches and works that inspired them.
